David Bromley

Rationale

“In most work I do that includes children, it is often a reflection of the close relationship (almost telepathic) with my father. There’s also a more autobiographical element which is the young artist. The large amount of visual information surrounding the artist moves between pure decoration and stories linked to my own life.”

About David

Born in 1960, David Bromley is a renowned Australian artist celebrated for his expertise in painting and sculpture, notably acclaimed for his portraits, depictions of children, birds, butterflies, and female nudes. Initially launching his career as a potter in Adelaide, Bromley has showcased his works extensively across Australia, Asia, Europe, Africa, and America. A six-time finalist for the Archibald Prize, he, alongside his wife Yuge, own Bromley & Co, a venture encompassing galleries and stores in both Australia and China.

Curator’s Choice

Zammit says, “Regardless of your stance on his commercial art, Bromley has undeniable drive. Don’t judge Bromley by the surface, judge him by his character. I admire any artist that is still thriving the way he does, but at 63 – it’s testament to his passion.”
